Welcome to COVERAGE (the "App"). These Terms of Service (the "Terms") form a binding agreement between you and Daniel Ocanto Hernandez, the independent developer who publishes the App ("we", "us", "our"). By downloading, installing, or using the App you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
Please read these Terms carefully. They include a disclaimer of warranties, a limitation of liability, and provisions governing how disputes are resolved.
1. Who we are (legal notice)
The App is developed and published by Daniel Ocanto Hernandez, an independent developer, and is distributed through the Apple App Store, where the developer is shown as the seller.
- Developer and seller: Daniel Ocanto Hernandez

2. What the App does
COVERAGE is a professional reference and pre-production tool for cinematographers, camera assistants, and directors. Its features include, but are not limited to:
- Visualising lens image circle coverage across a wide catalogue of cinema and photographic sensors, in spherical and anamorphic modes.
- Computing depth-of-field, hyperfocal distance, field of view, and related optical parameters.
- Providing a "director's viewfinder" that overlays framelines, aspect ratios, and sensor crops onto the device camera preview.
- Capturing reference frames ("shots"), annotating them with lens, focal length, focus distance, aspect ratio, GPS coordinates, and compass heading, and organising them into projects and shot lists.
- Exporting shot lists and coverage sheets to PDF for use on set.
- Suggesting rental options and recommending accessories such as matte boxes, clip-on filters, and support rigs, where compatibility rules are defined in the catalogue.
The App is a planning and reference tool. It is not a light meter, an exposure meter, a certification of optical performance, or a substitute for professional judgement, camera tests, and on-set verification.
3. Reference data — provided "as is"
The App ships with a catalogue of lens and camera reference data ("Reference Data"), including:
- Sensor dimensions, pixel counts, and recording modes.
- Lens specifications, including image-circle diameter, focal length, close focus distance, T-stop, filter thread, and physical dimensions.
- Coverage geometry, framelines, and compatibility notes.
- Third-party rental-house or accessory information where surfaced in-app.
Reference Data is compiled from publicly available manufacturer publications, service documents, and reputable industry sources. Manufacturers change specifications, publish inconsistent figures, and occasionally publish figures that differ from measured behaviour. Coverage geometry in particular is an approximation of a complex optical system.
Reference Data is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis, without any warranty of accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose. You are solely responsible for verifying any Reference Data that informs a production decision — including, but not limited to, camera and lens tests, back-focus checks, coverage checks on the actual sensor and recording mode you intend to use, and physical fit-up of accessories. Do not rely on the App as the sole basis for a rental order, a camera build, a shot design, or an on-set decision.
If you find an error in the Reference Data, please email support@coverage-app.xyz so we can investigate a correction.
4. Licence to use the App
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a personal, worldwide, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable licence to install and use the App on devices you own or control for both personal and commercial purposes — including use on paid productions, commercial shoots, and professional pre-production workflows.
This licence covers use of the App itself. It does not transfer any ownership of the App, the Reference Data, our trademarks, our software, or our underlying know-how. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.
5. Reference Data — ownership and permitted use
The Reference Data catalogue, the way it is organised, the compatibility rules, the coverage geometry, the accessory recommendations, and the associated database schema are our intellectual property. You may use Reference Data inside the App, view it, and reference it while making production decisions.
You may not:
- Extract, scrape, crawl, harvest, mirror, or otherwise systematically copy the Reference Data (in whole or in substantial part) from the App or from any of our services.
- Reproduce, republish, redistribute, resell, sublicense, or make the Reference Data available as a data feed, dataset, API, spreadsheet, printed reference, or training corpus for any machine-learning system.
- Use the Reference Data to build a product or service that competes with the App.
- Remove, obscure, or alter any attribution, watermark, or copyright notice applied to exported material.
Occasional export of a small number of individual entries for private, non-commercial reference (for example, a printed spec sheet you take onto a personal shoot) is permitted, provided the source is identified.
6. Prohibited use
You agree not to, and not to permit any third party to:
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to derive source code or underlying ideas from the App, except to the extent permitted by applicable law.
- Circumvent, disable, or interfere with security-related features of the App or any features that restrict use of the App or the Reference Data.
- Use the App or the Reference Data to develop or train any machine-learning or artificial-intelligence system, including large language models, embedding models, or generative visual models.
- Use the App in any way that is unlawful, that infringes the rights of others, or that violates the App Store or Google Play terms of service.
- Use our name, our logo, our trade dress, or the "COVERAGE" and "Director's Viewfinder" marks in any advertising, publication, or product without our prior written consent, other than fair-use references (for example, "I planned this on COVERAGE") in editorial or personal contexts.
- Impersonate us, misrepresent your affiliation with us, or falsely imply endorsement.
- Use the App from, or on behalf of a person or entity ordinarily resident in, a jurisdiction subject to comprehensive US, EU, or United Nations sanctions, or where such use would violate applicable export-control laws (including, without limitation, the US Export Administration Regulations and the sanctions administered by the US Office of Foreign Assets Control ("OFAC")). As of the effective date, this includes Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, and the Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions of Ukraine, together with any additional jurisdictions or specially-designated persons then subject to comprehensive US sanctions.
7. Accounts
Some features of the App (for example, cross-device sync of projects, shots, and favourites) require you to sign in with an account created through Firebase Authentication.
- You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide.
- You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure.
- You must be at least the age of digital consent in your country to create an account. In the European Union, that is generally 16, though member states may set it as low as 13. In the United States, you must be at least 13. Do not create an account for anyone under those thresholds.
- Notify us at support@coverage-app.xyz if you suspect that your account has been used without your permission.
You do not need an account to use the App's core coverage, viewfinder, and depth-of-field features. Those work fully offline.
8. User content
The App lets you create and store material we call "User Content", which includes:
- Reference frames and thumbnails you capture through the viewfinder.
- Photos you import from your device library.
- Shot lists, projects, favourites, defaults, and notes you enter.
- Custom LUTs (look-up tables), calibration files, and other assets you load into the App.
- Any text you type into free-form fields.
You own your User Content. We do not claim any ownership over it.
You grant us a limited, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, transmit, and process your User Content solely to the extent necessary to provide the App to you — for example, syncing your projects between your own devices, generating a PDF export you request, or displaying a thumbnail. This licence ends when you delete the User Content or delete your account, except for backups retained for the periods described in the Privacy Policy.
You are responsible for the User Content you create, including for ensuring that you have the right to capture, upload, and use any subject matter depicted in it. Do not upload material you do not have the right to use.
9. Third-party services
The App uses third-party services to function. Your use of the App is also subject to those services' own terms and privacy policies.
- Firebase (Google LLC) — Authentication and Firestore for cross-device sync. See https://firebase.google.com/terms and https://policies.google.com/privacy.
- Apple App Store / Google Play — distribution of the App and, where applicable, in-app purchases. Their storefront terms apply to your download and account.
- Expo Application Services (650 Industries, Inc.) — delivers App updates; see https://expo.dev/privacy.
- No analytics or crash-reporting SDK — the App does not include a behavioural analytics or third-party crash-reporting service. If one is added, it will be listed here and in the Privacy Policy first.
We are not responsible for third-party services and do not control them. Their outage, misconfiguration, or termination may impair or disable features of the App.
10. Fees, in-app purchases, and free features
At launch, core features of the App are available free of charge. Some advanced features (for example, the professional Director's Viewfinder tier, extended cloud storage, or high-resolution PDF exports) may be offered as one-time purchases or subscriptions through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Where you purchase such features:
- Pricing, taxes, refund rules, subscription renewal, and cancellation are governed by the storefront's own terms.
- We do not receive or store your payment card details.
- Purchases are tied to your storefront account, not to your Firebase account, and cannot be transferred between storefronts.
We reserve the right to change pricing, introduce new paid features, or retire features on reasonable notice.
11. Availability and changes to the App
We may from time to time update, modify, add, or remove features of the App, change the Reference Data, or discontinue the App entirely. We aim to give reasonable notice of material changes, but we are not obliged to maintain any specific feature or Reference Data entry indefinitely.
We do not guarantee that the App will be available at all times, that it will be free of bugs or errors, that it will interoperate with every device, or that data sync will complete instantly.
12. Disclaimer of warranties
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE APP AND THE REFERENCE DATA ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, QUIET ENJOYMENT, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
Without limiting the previous paragraph, we specifically disclaim any warranty that the App or the Reference Data will meet your requirements, that operation of the App will be uninterrupted or error-free, that defects will be corrected, or that the App is free of viruses or other harmful components.
Nothing in this section is intended to exclude or limit any warranty, right, or remedy that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable consumer-protection law, including the mandatory statutory rights of consumers in the European Union.
13. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL WE OR OUR CONTRACTORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, PUNITIVE, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, LOSS OF REVENUE, LOSS OF BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY, LOSS OF DATA, OR COST OF PROCURING SUBSTITUTE GOODS OR SERVICES, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE APP OR THESE TERMS, WHETHER BASED ON CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), STRICT LIABILITY, OR ANY OTHER LEGAL THEORY, AND WHETHER OR NOT WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE APP OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU HAVE PAID TO US FOR THE APP IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE OR (B) FIFTY EUROS (EUR 50).
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits liability for gross negligence, wilful misconduct, personal injury, death, or fraud, where such limitation is not permitted by law.
14. Indemnity
To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold us and our contractors harmless from and against any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to: (a) your misuse of the App or the Reference Data; (b) your violation of these Terms; (c) your User Content; or (d) your infringement of any third-party right.
This indemnity does not apply to European Union consumers to the extent prohibited by applicable law.
15. Termination
You may stop using the App at any time. You may delete your account and associated synced data through the in-app Profile screen or by emailing support@coverage-app.xyz.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the App, delete your account, and remove your User Content from our servers if:
- You materially breach these Terms and, where the breach is capable of cure, do not cure it within a reasonable period after notice.
- We are required to do so by law or by a competent authority.
- Continued provision of the App becomes commercially or technically impracticable.
On termination, sections 3, 5, 6, 8 (as to your ownership), 12, 13, 14, 16, 17, 18, and 19 will survive.
16. Governing law
These Terms and any dispute arising out of or in connection with them or the App are governed by the laws of the country where the developer is habitually resident, without reference to its conflict-of-laws rules.
The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.
Nothing in this section deprives a consumer of the protection afforded by the mandatory provisions of the law of the country in which the consumer is ordinarily resident.
17. Dispute resolution and venue
We prefer to resolve disputes amicably. Please contact us first at support@coverage-app.xyz and describe your concern. We will try to respond within thirty (30) days.
If we cannot resolve the dispute informally, it will be decided by the courts of the developer's place of habitual residence. If you use the App as a consumer, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of the country where you live.
18. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date at the top of this document and, where the change is material, we will notify you in-app on next launch and, if you have provided an email address, by email.
Continued use of the App after the effective date of the updated Terms constitutes acceptance of the change. If you do not agree, you must stop using the App.
19. Miscellaneous
- Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any purchase-specific terms accepted at checkout, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the App and supersede any prior agreement.
- Severability. If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
- No waiver. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later.
- Assignment. You may not assign or transfer these Terms or any rights under them without our prior written consent. We may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
- Force majeure. We are not liable for delay or failure to perform caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including internet or cloud-provider outages, industrial action, natural disaster, war, or government action.
- Notices. Notices to us must be sent to support@coverage-app.xyz. Notices to you may be sent in-app or to the email address on your account.
- Language. These Terms are drafted in English. Translations are for convenience only; in case of conflict, the English version prevails, except where a local-language version is required by law for consumers.
